“Quiet Together: a Contemplative Interfaith Retreat in the City”

Quiet Together is a free, interfaith contemplative retreat, offering talks and meditation instruction from the traditions of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Zen Buddhism. Each of the four teachers will present a contemplative practice from their tradition and then lead the participants in a meditation practice.

The Speakers are:
Vrinda Didi: Vrinda is a Senior Chanter at Radha Madhav Dham, which is one of the largest Hindu temples and ashrams in the U.S. Vrinda is a 30 year student of the path of Raganuga Bhakti and 20 year resident of Radha Madhav Dham. Vrinda guides westerners in the practical application of the eternal Vedic teachings of India.
Imam Shaykh Mohamed-Umer Esmail: Shaykh Mohamed-Umer Esmail of the Nueces Mosque is a Canadian born, traditionally trained scholar who started his quest to acquire Islamic knowledge at a young age and continued formal studies of the Sciences of Shari`ah in different parts of the world for thirteen years. He has Ijazah in Qira’at, Hadith and Fiqh from renowned Scholars.
Rev. Eric Whitfield: Rev. Whitfield is a chaplain and bereavement counselor for HealthSense Hospice, a graduate of the Seminary of the Southwest and is ordained and endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship through his home church. Eric worships with Peace of Christ Church in Round Rock. Eric has found Centering Prayer to be the practice that speaks most directly to his soul. He delights in teachers who are determined to set our spirits free including Fr. Richard Rohr, Fr. Thomas Keating, Fr. Carl Arico, Rev. Cynthia Bourgeault and most recently Dr. Richard Beck. Eric and his wife Kris have lived in Round Rock for almost 30 years.
Rev. Dr. David Zuniga: Dr. Zuniga earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is a licensed psychologist in the Integrative Medicine Department of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Previously, he earned a masters degree in meditation and Buddhist philosophy from Harvard, and also holds a masters degree in English literature. Dr. Zuniga was the first westerner to be ordained in the Taego lineage of Korea Zen, and worked for over a decade as a Zen chaplain in pediatric and adult end-of-life care. He provides talks internationally and is finishing a book on Zen, mindfulness, and end-of-life concerns.
Meals and other logistics: Due to the nature of this event, meals and childcare will not be able to be provided. The event will have a break period when participants can take some time to get lunch nearby downtown.
